Chocolate Making App?

Did you know a goodly portion of my emails are about recipe formulation?

  • Can I add this?

  • Will this work?

  • How do I scale this recipe up?

  • How do I know how much cocoa butter to add?

  • Is this amount of sugar too much?

You get the idea. Long ago I made an Excel spreadsheet that I call our Formulator, but alas, times have moved on and even to my old school sensibilities it is antiquated. I’ve dreamed for a while of turning it into a proper app, but here’s the thing: apps take real time, real money, and real people to build. And around here, we already have our hands full.

Enter Craft Cacao — an independent project led by Ruzz (my long-suffering tech wizard and the one I bug when I want digital magic to happen). He’s taken the lead on bringing this vision to life — and I’ve agreed to help out as an advisor, making sure it captures the spirit and accuracy of the original.

But none of that matters if it’s not something you want.

I sent an email to around 10,000 folks and figured a few more might see it here. I asked Ruzz what kind of interest would make this worth his really building out, and after some dramatic negotiations, he gave me a number: 666 people.

So — if you’ve ever used the Formulator, or ever wanted to — sign up for the waitlist (details below). It’s free for now, and if we reach that threshold of portent, we’ll get to devote a lot more time to the project, bringing it home quicker.

Help us decide if this thing deserves to exist.

Why might you care about a Chocolate Making App?

  • You use messy spreadsheets that break or get lost (cough).

  • You guess and hope for the best.

  • You have no real idea if a recipe will be too thick for the melanger until it’s too late.

  • You struggle at scaling recipes.

  • You don’t have a clean way to organize recipe versions or track batches.

What’s the process to Vote for the App?

  1. Just join the waitlist here: https://craftcacao.app/#early-access

Look at that! It is that simple.

What’s next?

  1. We will send invitations in waves as we stabilize the app. Until we hit that magic number we don’t have a timeline, and well, after that, we don’t have a timeline.

  2. It’s free during early access, and YOUR feedback will help shape the roadmap of the app.

  3. YOUR feedback will influence the next features we build.

What will the App do?

It is easier to show you then tell you. Check out what we have in mind.

A final note, this is NOT going to be an AI bot. This is being built off my, the one and only Alchemist, experience over the last 20 plus years of making bean to bar chocolate. AI features will come one day, but the math will always be sound.
